On May 13th, after a lot of hard work from UWSC Organizing Advocates and others, wildfire survivors from across California stood before the Assembly Utilities and Energy Committee and the Assembly Appropriations Committee and they provided STRONG GROUND TRUTH and Advocacy for the California Assembly:

Watch this video. Listen to how they connected their stories to OUR fight for legislative solutions. These voices, leadership from Assemblymember Gallagher and others, PLUS all of our hard work leading up to these hearings made the difference.

What you’re hearing are not just individual stories… these survivors from the Utility Wildfire Survivor Coalition are speaking for hundreds of thousands of Californians who want justice and are still waiting for fair and FULL recovery after utility-caused wildfires.

YES… this Is How Change Happens

If you are wondering how a bill gains support as it travels through the California Legislature… this is it!

  • We are not lobbyists.

  • We are not corporations or special interests.

  • WE ARE Survivors Standing UP for OUR families and OUR communities!

The Real Question: Who will hold PG&E and SCE accountable for their negligence, mismanagement and string of violations? Who will continue to fight?

WE will.

YES, the utilities and their institutional investors have mountains of money and unlimited resources. That will not discourage us…

WE have each other and the conviction to know what is right and just! We will continue to act on these convictions to support wildfire survivors, our neighbors and our communities!

This Isn’t Easy

The advocacy you hear on this video is not easy and not simple. It is personal, painful and often re-traumatizing but so important to connect our pain and suffering to the right legislative solutions like AB 2700 and other legislation that we are PUSHING this session flowing from the SB 254 Report.

This advocacy is ESSENTIAL. The status quo is a powerful force. Without our voices, the system will not change.

Get Ready for What’s Next… We Need More Voices and More Advocacy Action

AB 2700 is now headed to a full Assembly Floor vote within the next two weeks. That means:

  • MORE Phone calls

  • MORE Emails and Position Letters

  • MORE Meetings with Legislators

  • MORE testimony as AB 2700 heads to the Senate

Please, stay tuned for next steps… We are entering a critical phase.

We will deliver justice for current and future wildfire survivors!

What can you do NOW?

PLEASE, (1) watch this video (2) share it and (3) help AMPLIFY these STRONG voices across social media, within your communities and across the State of California.

Thank you so so much for your continued advocacy,

Will
